I created this website as a way to showcase my personal projects that can’t be seen on LinkedIn or resumé’s easily. The things on here are not representative of the work I have done on my job, and represent only my own opinions, musings, creations, explorations, and other nonsense.
Technical Background
This website is built using Astro.js. This has been my first time using Astro before and I have been very pleasantly surprised with the workflow.
I wanted a static, multi-page site where I could simply edit flat files with no CMS or server setup required. This has been my first time using Astro, and it has been an absolute delight. It’s powerful components and static file workflows made this easy. Adding a new project is as simple as dropping a file into src/content/work/, and Astro automatically creates the route and updates the homepage. Setting up deployment to my domain took just a few clicks.
Hosting is handled by AWS Amplify, which connects to GitHub and automatically builds and deploys the site on every push. Route 53 manages the domain, and Amplify takes care of DNS and SSL certificates. The whole process is fast and hands-off, making it ideal for static sites like this that don’t have complicated build steps or configurations. Between all of these tools, I had a skeleton website up at my url with an automated deployment flow within about 1 hour of me making the decision to create a personal website!
